Starved of opportunities at the top level with his native New South Wales despite impressing for them in the Toyota Futures League, Coffs Harbour product Joe Mennie accepted when South Australia came calling in the 2011 off-season with the offer of a rookie contract. After three seasons with the West End Redbacks, Mennie has established himself as one of South Australia’s frontline bowlers.

Debuting against Western Australia at Adelaide Oval in 2011, Mennie took three wickets for the match and went on to become one of the best performed bowlers for the West End Redbacks in the Sheffield Shield, taking 23 wickets at 26.26. His best performance came in just his third match, when he finished with 7/96 against Western Australia in Perth.

Mennie has also continued to prove his talent with the white ball, taking nine wickets in the 2013/4 Ryobi One-Day Cup with a strike rate of 27.8.
